James Cordie's Story

Life Not to much to say for 59 years. My school and work Bio covers much of my life. Grew up in Hialeah and moved to North Miami when I got married. I dated three girls in my life and married the last one. Still married to her for 36 years. Took a change in jobs to start my family. First child was a girl, Heather, born on my 30th birthday. Then Chad was born 5 1/2 years later. Followed by Andrew in 18 months. Guess I figured how it worked by then. But wife put a stop to that. So no more kids for us. Three was a good number and I love them all. Heather was top of her class in high school and Top Honor student in Finance at U of M. She is married to a wonderful guy and lives in Tampa. Chad graduated from USF this year. Both Heather and Chad work in finance. Andrew has two more years at USF and plans on being a police officer. My wife now has a new job near Orlando and I'm still here in South Florida. Well I got a new job in December 07. Went to work for Handy Storage (self storage) in Plantation, FL as Assistant Manager. Problem was there was no manager. So for 5 months I was both. With 1000 storage units there is a different story with each of them. During the 5 months I was there I had a guy rent a unit and he was planning on killing himself there. But he drove back to his house and shot himself. Then I found a 19 year old girl living in one of the units. Had to evict her. The city tore down several old buildings next to my location and over night we had rats. That is just 3 of the over 1000 units I had there and each one has a story. Well around the first of June I was offered the Resident Manager position at our Pembroke Pines, FL location. On June 15th I took that job. I love working with the people that rent from me and taking care of the property. Something new everyday Still could be along time before I see any grand kids. Wife has always worked in the insurance field starting in high school. I married her right out of high school. So lets see my totals are lived in 2 houses, dated 3 girls, married 1, 3 kids and 5 major jobs in my life. Is that stable or dull? That is my story for now and I hope someday I can add more to this. School Well what can I say about my school years. I was mostly a loaner. Not many friends. No girl friends in school. Elementary was fun, always had great teachers. But we had to learn the waltz with a girl during PE. Then MSJH Funny how a summer can make the girls look so much better. JH a different way of life. But learned a great deal there. Spanish class was a joke. Then there was shop class and sometime during the week there was a good fight after lunch. Sometime requiring a run out to the pine trees and back. I only did that once. Remember all the earth worms after a rain. I was the guy that took Library Science (I put returned books back on the shelves) But I did have two nice girls during that period to work with. There...Expand for more
I go dreaming again. Just worked with them. Then we all remember that day in Dallas. School was let out early. A very sad day for all. Moving on to MSHS As I look back I missed out on may things, but that is history and I can't change that. I slept in my math classes but passed them. One English teacher saved my butt. If it was not for her I would not have passed 12 grade. Took electronics class. Remember the Green brothers. Then one week we traded class with Home Ed. Lets just say the cookies made for our electronics teacher did not have chocolate chips in then. He did not make it to lunch. Does the word ExLax mean anything. Last time the school did that trade. I still took Library Science but now that included the Audio-Visual equipment made it more fun. Never went to a football game or took part in any sports. I do remember the kids from the Springs looked down on the kids form Hialeah. At least we lived on streets with numbers and not names of birds. Just kidding. All in all my school years went ok I would not want to go back. True I would do some things different, as I am sure most of us would. Well that covers my school years. Workplace After High School I worked for two Christian Schools and started my own business installing/repairing sound systems (Cordicom). One of my suppliers told me of an opening with Spectrum Enterprises, a local Sound Contractor. I worked for them 9 years. The major equipment line we installed was Altec Lansing out of Anaheim CA. I went to work for Altec in 1978 as District Manager covering 7 states in the SE. Biggest job at that time was the Atlanta Airport. Being on the road was not for me. It did give us our first child. (Who wants to sleep after a week on the road and just flying home on the Red Eye from Atlanta). In 1980 I started my own company, American Communication Services in North Miami. Just me, myself and I. Sounds like a movie title. I did have some nice accounts. Woolworth's, Penney's, Toy-R-US, Graybar Electric. Remember Woolco's and Treasurey Stores. I had those accounts right up until they closed. After almost 20 years installing sound systems, phone systems and date cabling. I was tired of all the ups and downs with that type of business and doing every thing by myself. I went to work for Northwest Baptist Church/Northwest Christian Academy as Facilities Manager. My kids went to school there from daycare to 12th grade. After 5 years and 4 months lets say we have parted ways. Nine months later they fired the real problem. Lets just say I was not the only one to find joy in that. They did offer me a real nice package to leave and I was happy to do just that. Free at last Free at last. So now I'm looking for a new job. Got that new job with Handy Storage as Assistant Manager and then Resident Manager. The kids all live in Tampa now. My wife has a job near Orlando and lives in Sanford. Check back and see what happens.
